Under Construction[ BACK | resume | programs1 ]

HISTORY

The principal Engineer has been involved with over 45 years in the field of engineering and software development.  This was started in 1955 when  the principal Engineer joined the United States Air Force and was giving the job assignment as a SURVEYOR.  The principal Engineer did both surveying and drafting mainly in the area of communication construction while in the Air Force.  After the Air Force, the principal Engineer worked on various construction jobs as a surveyor, engineering aid and inspector.  At this point, the principal Engineer returned to College and then completed College.

Upon entering the work force as a hardware type engineer, the use of software tools became apparent.  Also, the verification/testing to determine the performance of these developed tools became a very important part of design engineering.  The principal Engineer tried to meets these need both on the job and off the job.

In the these early days before the development of the micro-processor chip, it was not easy for a hardware engineer to use the computer.   Computers were primary used by the Information System people.   The old time sharing computer systems were somewhat expensive for this time period and most mangers did not want to pay the price.  The use of computer systems was not for everyone as it is in today's time frame.  But the principal Engineer continued to use computers to solve engineering problems the best way that could be done during this time period.

With the coming of the micro-processor led to the micro-computer.  The principal Engineer did indeed buy one of the first micro-computers based on the 8080 chip.  In these early days, these initial computers could only be programmed in machine language using switches.  In time, CRT video displays and printers were added to this basic systems and the principal Engineer start to developed software on this machine for used in solving engineering design problems and support.  These programs were developed initially on S100 micro-computer systems and then on the TRS80, DOS and Windows PCs, and Macintosh personal computers.  This work has been on going part time since 1979 and continued on a full time bases from 1986 to 1991.

Some of this development work is present in the next section of this page layout.  These programs are to show what has been done in the best, in order, to continue with the present into the future.  Many of these programs are not available at the present time.  It there is interest in any of these programs, these programs could be updated to the present environment.  These program originally have been developed on many different systems.  This includes but not limited to  S100 basic - DOS - Windows - OS2 - MacIntosh operating systems.  Several different languages have been used .  This includes Fortran - Basic - C - C++ - Pascal- Hyper Card/Tool book script.  The objective was to make these tools available for everyone.
