Decaling is the process of using a 2D image in order to glue it onto an arbitary 3D shape. This is a very important step to add realism to any 3D model. Therefore some information and implemention steps will be presented.
A model can have multiple images decaled onto it, and a single image can be decaled onto a model many times. Before applying a decal, the parts of the model that will not be dedaled must be hidden. The TARGA (.TGA) image format is recommended for the image file. A paint type program can be used to make the Targa file.
