SENSORS that appear to SEE - VISION
There are several type of sensors that appear to see. The two type that have been investigated are sensors based on acoustical and IR techniques. There are many other type of sensors that can be make to implement vision. There is a continuing effort to evaluate and investigate all type of sensors with all type of implementation. These tasks are even on going.
The Acoustical based device that is presently being investigated is the Polaroid Unltrasonic Ranging Systems. This system comes with a transducer and a driver circuit. The Unit has been interface to a STAMP micro-controller and a LCD with very little problems. This Unit can be interface to any type of controller with very little problems. The LCD readout gives the distance from the transducer to the object that has been detected. In this manner maps can be made and any type of navigation could be implemented.
The IR based device that is presently being investigated is the LYNXMOTION IRPD Board - INFRARED PROXIMITY DETECTOR. This is sold in kit form and has been build and has gone thur initial testing. The IRPD board has been interface to the LYNXMOTION First Step Kit. This kit is based in the STAMP1 controller and has outputs for motor control and sensor I/O.
